I sold hand knit yoda hats to buy textbooks in college.
That was my first side hustle in 2007! I’ve learned a lot of things since then.
My story
I’m a small-town girl living in rural Maine with my family of four. My husband and I have known each other forever… we went to high school together, reconnected in college, and got engaged our senior year. After getting married, we bought a huge house in a subdivision, thinking it was the dream… but it didn’t take long to realize it wasn’t our dream. Subdivision life wasn’t for us. We craved space, privacy, and a slower pace.
So, we sold the house and bought a farm down the road. Here’s the catch: we didn’t know a thing about farming. To help cover costs, we converted the barn into a wedding venue. Hosting weddings turned out to be rewarding but incredibly time-consuming. Keeping the property picture-perfect for events left little time for farming, and the “homestead dream” took a backseat.
Then came our two little girls (back to back!) and life shifted again. We decided to step back from weddings to finally focus on what really matters to us: creating a simple, quiet life.
These days, we’re prioritizing our little hobby farm, learning lost skills like canning, gardening, and keeping chickens, and savoring the beauty of everyday moments.
Welcome to our good old days. We’re so happy you’re here to share them with us!
